Quick Seedling Update!

Sadly, being a first time seed starter has already had its ups and downs. I was VERY excited to see lettuce sprouts within the first four days. I documented this on my Instagram account (@antarctiblue for those who don't currently follow!) and on Facebook. I adjusted my watering methods because it seemed that spraying them from the top of the soil was not keeping-9 it wet enough. So now I am using a cup to slowly and carefully pour small amounts of water around the lettuce sprouts, and watering the tomatoes and peppers from the bottom via the containers I put the tubes in.
The tomatoes and peppers seem to be lagging behind the suggested germination periods, and so I only had a single, beautiful tomato seedling. And in a horrific turn of events, my overzealous toddler decided to murder it...*SIGH*. However, after I regained my composure, I changed up my strategy for those plants as well. I have placed large clear tupaware containers over the paper tubes to serve as a perculater. I wish I'd done this from the beginning, as it seems to conserve water! These perculaters should keep the soil warmer so that the toms and peps will be encouraged to germinate. A tomato sprout has already come up to replace the one that was killed.
I have yet to construct my garden beds and am still debating on where to even put them! I will need to walk the yard to find the best possible spot, then I will update you guys on the construction of the cinder block beds! We have an awesomely sunny, warm weekend coming up, so that will be perfect! See y'all next time!
